Maths Problem...

Have a go at trying to work these problems out. The first one is simpler to get you started.

The key thing I'd like you to share with me or your teacher is HOW you worked these out. I would really like to see your working out so that I can scan it and add it to the gallery to show your thinking!

1. Diago secretly typed a number into his calculator. He asked his friend Pavon to think of a number to add to it. Pavon replied, "add 7".

Diago pressed the '+7' and handed it to Pavon. When Pavon got the calculator he pressed the '=' sign and the display showed the number 20.

What was Diago's secret number?

2. Sabrina secretly typed a number into her calculator. She asked her friend Louise to think of a number to multiply it by. Louise replied, "multiply it by 7".

Sabrina pressed 'x7' and handed it to Louise. When Louise got the calculator she presed the '+' sign and the display showed the number 63.

What was Sabrina's secret number?

Now for a slightly trickier one...

3. Abdul secretly typed a number into his calculator. He asked his friend Zak to think of a number to multiply it by. Zak said, "multiply by 3".

Abdul pressed 'x3. He then asked his friend Paul to think of a number to add to it. Paul replied, "add 6".

Abdul pressed '+6' and then passed the calculator to them both. They pressed the '=' sign and the display showed the number '15'.

What was Abdul's secret number?
